The updates just keep on coming. Apple released the third beta for iOS 12 to public testers Wednesday, July 18, just after seeding the fourth iOS 12 developer beta to registered developers the previous day. This update comes thirteen days after the release of the second public beta, which itself came hot on the heels of the third developer beta.
iOS 12 public beta 3 introduces the same bug fixes and security patches that iOS 12 developer beta 4 did. While no game-changing features came through this time around, users will notice some important updates on their iPhones. Fortnite players should no longer experience crashing during play, and Apple Watch contacts won't fall out of sync (if users open the Watch app and head to General –> Reset –> Reset Sync Data).
But this beta isn't all fun and games. Among new bugs and glitches, Apple cautions iPhone X users that their cell signal bars could be inaccurate while running iOS 12 public beta 3. Make sure to keep that in mind while running this beta, if on an iPhone X, as your cell service at any given time might be different than it appears to be.

If you want to update your iPhone to the third public beta of iOS 12, you need to be a registered public beta tester with a valid configuration profile. If you have "Automatic Updates" enabled, you can wait for the software to update overnight. To download it right now, however, open the Settings app, select "General," then "Software Update." Then, tap "Download and Install," and follow the on-screen prompts.
While betas offer users a fun way to try out new features, testers are generally discouraged from installing the software on their personal devices, due to the high number of unpredictable bugs. iOS 12, on the other hand, has an unusual advantage in that it perhaps performs better than its official counterpart iOS 11.
iOS 11 is notorious for its instability, bugs, and overall poor performance, which is why those issues became the main feature sported by Apple's 2018 iOS upgrade. iOS 12, even in beta, rejuvenates devices as old as the iPhone 5S with new life. It's snappy, smooth, and miles better than iOS 11 when first released.
It's not just about performance, however. iOS 12 brings some new features to the table, as well, including notification grouping, Memojis, an AR measuring tool, Quick Reply Tapbacks, and Siri Shortcuts, among many others.
